Trampoline springs and mat: 7 parts and what to measure

To replace a trampoline's jumping mat, you take three measurements: the outside diameter of the frame, the number of eyelets or rings and the length of the springs, from 13.5 to 16.5 cm on the listings. The 7 parts compared are 6 jumping mats and a spring pad.

By Nicolas Pradier · Updated 18 October 2026

En bref
  • Three measurements before ordering: outside diameter of the frame, number of eyelets or rings, length of a spring taken off, hook to hook.
  • The mat is smaller than the frame: 324 cm of fabric for a 12ft (366 cm) frame.
  • Stitching stated: 8 rows on most mats, 9 for AREBOS; 260 g/m² for KIDUKU and Monzana.
  • A new mat does not change the maximum weight in the trampoline's instructions.
  • Rusty or stretched springs should be replaced at the same time as the mat.

A mat that differs on even one of these points will not fit, or will fit badly. Several listings (SONGMICS, EUPXRHY) in fact tell you to measure the old mat before buying.

Six mats out of six are polypropylene, so the material does not separate them. The differences show in the weight, where it is quoted, in the stitching around the eyelets and in how the listing deals with water.

The Monzana listing says its mat is compatible with its own trampolines and with other models of the same size. That sentence is no substitute for comparing the three measurements.

Replacing the mat: tools and precautions

  • Pulling tool: the SPORTNOW comes with one, which helps with hooking on the last springs.
  • Gloves and eye protection: a spring under tension can slip and cause injury.
  • Two people: one holds the mat, the other hooks on the springs.
  • Take off and put on springs alternating between opposite sides of the frame, to keep the tension even.
  • Never stand on the mat while a spring is unhooked.
Follow the trampoline's instructions

The order for taking springs off and putting them back depends on the model. The original instructions take precedence over these pointers; the general order is covered in how to assemble a trampoline.

After fitting: the first checks

  1. Check that every eyelet has a spring hooked on all the way.
  2. Look at the tension: the mat should not ripple on one side.
  3. Check that the springs are the same length all the way round.
  4. Put the spring pad back, then the net, before letting anyone on.
  5. Do a first careful test, with no child on it, to listen for any odd noise.

Weight limit and use

  • Weight limits stated for the mats: 120 kg (SPORTNOW), 150 kg (SONGMICS, AREBOS), 50 to 150 kg depending on the diameter (Monzana).
  • The weight limit to respect remains that in the complete trampoline's instructions, not that of the mat alone.
  • A new mat does not replace checking the frame, the springs and the net before jumping.
  • To choose a whole trampoline rather than parts, see the garden trampoline page.

Frequently asked questions

How do I choose a trampoline jumping mat?

Measure the frame's outside diameter, count the eyelets or rings and measure a spring that has been taken off, hook to hook. Compare with the compatibility stated on the listing.

Which mat for a 12ft (366 cm) trampoline?

The 324 cm SONGMICS mat is for 366 cm frames with 13.5 to 14 cm springs, and the 323 cm SPORTNOW for 12ft frames with 72 rings. Check the number of rings.

How many eyelets should a jumping mat have?

It depends on the model: 64 for the 305 cm AREBOS, 72 for the SPORTNOW, 48 to 96 for the KIDUKU depending on the diameter. Count those on the old mat.

Can I change the mat without changing the springs?

If the spring length and the number of eyelets match, yes. Otherwise, mat and springs are replaced together. The trampoline's instructions give the references.

What is a spring pad for?

It covers the springs and the edge of the frame. The SPRINGOS listing points out that bare springs can cause injury; it replaces neither the net nor the instructions.

Is a trampoline mat waterproof?

The listings differ: the SPORTNOW is stated waterproof, while the Monzana lets water through so it does not pool. In both cases the material is polypropylene.

How many rows of stitching should a mat have?

The listings in the selection state 8 rows, 9 for the AREBOS. That number alone does not guarantee how long the mat will last.

How do I tension a new mat?

By hooking on the springs one at a time, alternating between opposite sides of the frame, with the pulling tool if the listing supplies one, as the SPORTNOW does.

When should I replace the jumping mat?

As soon as threads fray, an eyelet gives way or the fabric warps. A worn mat is not repaired by carrying on jumping on it.
